MODIS / Aqua Calcite Concentration Products

Global Ehux products illustrate the presence/absence, areal extent, and timing of blooms of the sentinel coccolithophorid species Emilliania huxleyi (a calcite producing single-celled algae) and the resulting calcite concentration. The shown products below are daily calcite concentrations on twenty-four regions (1 km resolution) from Aqua MODIS data by using the algorithm developed by Brown and Yoder (1994).

Important Message: The generation of global MODIS/Aqua Emiliania huxleyi (Ehux) bloom and calcite concentration products had been terminated on 9 June 2014 due to lack of NOAA operational users. Only a few old Ehux bloom and calcite concentration products remain here for demonstration. Please contact with either Dr. Banghua Yan (Banghua.Yan@noaa.gov) or Dr. Christopher W. Brown (Christopher.W.Brown@noaa.gov) if you plan to use, either the MODIS/Aqua E. huxleyi bloom map or the calcite concentration product in a NOAA operational program and/or model.
