On Tuesday, December 1, at approximately 1330 UTC (8:30 a.m. EST), a planned system failover test for up to 8 hours will result in delayed, inconsistent, stale or missing data on the GOES and SPSD web sites and an outage of the OSPO web site. Please monitor for additional information. The failover test may be delayed or suspended if there is a critical weather event.

As a reminder separate from the failover test, GOES-13 Sounder IR data is not available. All products from GOES-13 (GOES-East) Sounder IR data have been halted and distribution has been stopped. Engineers are investigating the problem.

MODIS / Aqua Ehux Bloom Map Products

Global Ehux products illustrate the presence/absence, areal extent, and timing of blooms of the sentinel coccolithophorid species Emilliania huxleyi (a calcite producing single-celled algae) and the resulting calcite concentration. The products include 8-day composites maps of E. huxleyi bloom presence and calcite concentrations on a global basis from Aqua MODIS data at 4km resolution by using the algorithm developed by Brown and Yoder (1994).

Important Message: The generation of global MODIS/Aqua Emiliania huxleyi (Ehux) bloom and calcite concentration products had been terminated on 9 June 2014 due to lack of NOAA operational users. Only a few old Ehux bloom and calcite concentration products remain here for demonstration. Please contact with either Dr. Banghua Yan ( or Dr. Christopher W. Brown ( if you plan to use, either the MODIS/Aqua E. huxleyi bloom map or the calcite concentration product in a NOAA operational program and/or model.
