REPORT DATE: 04-25-2020 REPORT TIME: 0030 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 04-24-2020 IMAGE TIME: 1656 UTC DATA SOURCE: TERRA MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 250 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 8.43 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. An oil slick extended 5 nm southwest from the destroyed Taylor platform. The slick was up to 0.67 nn wide and appeared white in sunglint. Model forecast ocean currents were from the NNE and winds were from the NE at 10-15 kts at the time of the image, which is consistent with the orientation of the slick. UNCERTAINTIES: The coarse resolution of the satellite data does not allow for a precise measurement of the size of the slick.
