REMARKS: Possible, unconfirmed oil was observed in satellite imagery. The possible oil appeared to emanate northward and northwestward from the location of an oil pipeline located approximately 90 nmi south of Holly Beach, LA. The anomaly measured approximately 6.8 nmi in length and up to 1.2 nmi in width, widening appreciably with distance from the suspected source, particularly in the southern half of the anomaly. It appeared dark against its background with sharp edges, with a streak of milky-white coloring near the suspected source suggesting possible thicker oil. The anomaly had a distinctly different appearance and was well-isolated from natural oil seeps seen in other areas of the image. Winds around the time of the image were from the southeast at around 8 kts.

UNCERTAINTIES: No known oil spills were reported near this location. The anomaly extended to the edge of the image swath, and so the full extent of the possible oil was uncertain.
