Topic:
TCE Disabled

Date/Time(UTC) Message Issued:
14 April 2004, 1515 UTC

Satellite(s) Involved:
NOAA-16

Instrument(s) Involved:
AVHRR & possibly HIRS

Product(s) Involved/Affected:
No immediate impact/possible HIRS

Date/Time(UTC) of Initial Implementation:
14 April 2004, Time 1515 UTC

Details/Specifics of Change:
On April 14 (day 105) on orbit 18343 around 1410 UTC, the Satellite
Operations Control Center (SOCC) disabled TCE24 (AVHRR Heater/Louver).
This was done as one step toward efforts to improve the AVHRR data.
Disabling the TCE24 will cause the AVHRR to heat up. This could result in
AVHRR scan motor improvement and better imagery. It is possible that the
HIRS will heat up resulting in an increase in channel noise. The data will
be closely monitored.
