Subject: NOAA-16, AVHRR Barcode Return and Resynch, 20 April 2004 - Issued: 20 April 2004; 1355 UTC
AVHRR Resych to remove barcodes
Date/Time(UTC) Message Issued:
20 April 2004, 1355 UTC
ALL/Scan line dropout
Date/Time(UTC) of Initial Implementation:
20 April 2004, Time 1430 UTC
Details/Specifics of Change:
SOCC reports the following:
"AT approx 05:30Z today (Tuesday 20 Apr 04) after MIRP rephase, the AVHRR
scan motor current surged very briefly to pegged (305 mAMps) and synch delta
pegged out (where it remains). It quickly came back to about 275, below
where bar codes are usually seen. However, since that surge, all images are
fully bar coded, even though the scan motor current has settled down again.
In the hope of getting images back to nominal SOCC will be manually
rephasing the MIRP for approx 10 seconds at 14:30Z (10:30 local) today."
Users will see scan line drop outs when the rephase occurs. Checking "bit
1: resync occurred on this frame" in the data record quality indicators will
tell you when the rephase occurs.
"bit 29: data gap precedes this scan" indicates the gap created by the
rephase in the scanline after it occurs.
