Topic:
Initial Monthly Visible calibration update

Date/Time(UTC) Message Issued:
20 April 2009, 1515 UTC

Satellite(s) Involved:
NOAA-19

Instrument(s) Involved:
AVHRR

Product(s) Involved/Affected:
All Products from channels 1 & 2

Date/Time(UTC) of Initial Implementation:
21 April 2009, Time TBD UTC

Details/Specifics of Change:
The AVHRR instrument scientist has inserted NOAA-19 into the normal monthly visible calibration updates. The following update is the calibration coefficients recommended for the initial April 2009 update. Please note that these calibration coefficients are derived with the NOAA-18 AVHRR Bi-directional Reflective Distribution Function parameters (BRDF). The operational calibration coefficients for NOAA-19 will mature and become independent of NOAA-18 BRDF parameters in about 18 months.

NOAA-19:

Ch_1_lo = 0.05051*count - 1.9635, count<496.43
Ch_1_hi = 0.1490*count - 51.2197, count>496.43

Ch_2_lo = 0.05346*count - 2.0731, count<500.37
Ch_2_hi = 0.15922*count - 54.969, count>500.37
