Topic:
Solar Array Move May Cause Data Shifts

Date/Time(UTC) Message Issued:
27 January 2004, 1815 UTC

Satellite(s) Involved:
NOAA-17

Instrument(s) Involved:
All instruments

Product(s) Involved/Affected:
All Products

Date/Time(UTC) of Initial Implementation:
29 January 2004, Time 1600 UTC

Details/Specifics of Change:
On January 29, SOCC will change the solar array offset from -35 to -40
degrees. According to SOCC, "This change is to reduce the excess power
unused due to the AMSU-A1 failure. There is expected to be minimal impact
to the spacecraft bus due to this change. N17's sun angle is high enough
such that the array does not cast a shadow on the bus, so there should be no
thermal changes as a result of the offset adjustment." This change will
occur on orbit number 8306.
