Subject: NOAA-18, All Instruments, Data Available For User Testing, 1 July 2005 - Issued: 1 July 2005; 1930 UTC

Topic:
NOAA-18 data is now available for check out but is not considered
operational

Date/Time(UTC) Message Issued:
1 July 2005, 1930 UTC

Satellite(s) Involved:
NOAA-18

Instrument(s) Involved:
All instruments

Product(s) Involved/Affected:
No impact

Date/Time(UTC) of Initial Implementation:
1 July, 2005, Time 1930 UTC

Details/Specifics of Change:
The Information Processing Division has made the NOAA-18 level 1B data
available for general user access. This does not mean that the data is
considered operational. Access was allowed in response to user requests to
have the data available to check out their systems in preparation for future
operational use. Users are warned that NOAA has not declared this data to
be at an operational level and that it is subject to change without prior
notice to the user community. NOAA is still in the process of completing
its on-orbit verification of the instruments and their data. There are
several issues that must be resolved before the data is declared
operational. Included in this list are the following:

- OV team are investigating a sinusoidal pitch error and possible correction
measures.
- Normal elapsed time clock corrections must be instituted once clock
evaluation is complete.
- HIRS longwave channels are not meeting specification and are generally not
useable; OV team is investigating.
- Analysis of imagery from the AMSU-A2, MHS, and AVHRR data indicates
possible roll type attitude error; OV team is investigating.
