Topic:
DMSP, SSMT2 & T1, Update on possible break in service to user community

Date/Time(UTC) Message Issued:
24 June 2002 2045 UTC

Satellite(s) Involved:
SSMT2 - F14 and F15
SSMT2 - F15

Instrument(s) Involved:
SSMT2
SSMT1

Product(s) Involved/Affected:
Level 1B and Soundings from Level 1B

Date/Time(UTC) of Initial Implementation:
TBD

Details/Specifics of Change:
The Information Processing Division (IPD)continues efforts to complete
changes to successfully switch DMSP level 1B processing to use the RSDR
format rather than the RDR format. The Air Force has delayed their plans to
switch operations to the RSDR format and discontinue support of the system
that maintains the RDR. All changes must be complete no later than noon on
June 26. IPD is making every effort to produce quality level 1B and
Soundings data using the new format so ops can be switched by COB June 25.
Currently, we are able to produce level 1B files for both T2 and T1.
Soundings are able to process the T2 data, however there are still problems
in the T1 level 1B that prevent Soundings processing. If we do not make the
June 26 deadline, the user community will experience a break in service.
Every effort will be made to avoid or minimize any down time. Thank you for
your patience and support.
