Topic:
Increase in noise level on most channels for NOAA-16 HIRS

Date/Time(UTC) Message Issued:
21 May 2004/19:30 UTC

Satellite(s) Involved:
NOAA-16

Instrument(s) Involved:
HIRS

Product(s) Involved/Affected:
Users of NOAA-16 HIRS Instrument

Date/Time(UTC) of Initial Implementation:
21 May 2004, 19:30 UTC

Details/Specifics of Change:
According to the trending data and sample level 1b data today,
it appears that there is significant noise increase (exceeded the
specification) in many channels of HIRS on NOAA-16, and the noise can be
seen in the imagery data. However, different from previous events, the
filter wheel housing temperature appears to be relatively stable this
time. Therefore this appears to be a new problem and we will keep
monitoring the level 1b and trending data.
