Topic:
Visible calibration update for month of October 2008 and Gross filter limit update

Date/Time(UTC) Message Issued:
15 October 2008, 2100 UTC

Satellite(s) Involved:
NOAA-16, 17, 18, & MetOp-2/A

Instrument(s) Involved:
AVHRR, AMSU-A

Product(s) Involved/Affected:
All Products using AVHRR channels 1, 2, and 3a.
All Products using AMSU-A channel 14/no impact

Date/Time(UTC) of Initial Implementation:
14 October 2008, Time 1353 UTC

Details/Specifics of Change:
On October 14 around 1353 UTC, NOAA updated NOAA-16 AMSU-A Channel 14 Space View upper limit from 15400 to 17000 in an effort to avoid gross filtering of the data. At the same time, the AVHRR visible calibration coefficients update was performed for the month of October for NOAA-16/L, 17/M, 18/N and MetOp-A/2. The first orbits processed were:

NSS.HRPT.NL.D08288.S1401.E1413.B4156363.GC
NSS.GHRR.NL.D08288.S1225.E1400.B4156263.GC

NSS.GHRR.NN.D08288.S1250.E1437.B1753031.GC

For M2, the first orbit processed was the one running after orbit:
NCS.FRAC.M2.D08288.S1123.E1304.B1031112.SV

The following update of the calibration coefficients for MetOp-2/A, NOAA-18, 17, &16 are recommended for October 14. These coefficients are intended to be optimal on October 28, in the middle of the two scheduled updates.
