Below normal SSTs persist surrounding most of the North American
continent.  The only region continuing to remain above the mean lies
between the west coast of the US and Hawaii...although waters around the
Hawaian Islands have finally cooled to below normal as well.

The eastern equatorial Pacific averages below normal for the first time
since 1988.
