From this nighttime composite SST anomaly the composite
cooling tracks [wakes] from recent east coast hurricanes
shows up quite vividly:

     -- recent cooling evident around the Bahamas from Hortense
          by as much as 1-2 deg C below climatology for this date

     -- effects around southern Baja standout

     -- several "tracks" from Pacific typhoons

Bleaching as just been reported at several Hawaiian coral reefs

     -- SSTs there have been as much as 1-1.5 deg C above normal
          for the past several weeks and are therefore suspected
          to be the likely cause.
