NOTES: SST Anomalies -- April 4, 1998 The 30 deg C waters around Galapagos have lowered several tenths of a degree over the past few weeks but at the surface the large pool of anomalously warm water remains unchanged for the most part over the eastern tropical Pacific. Compared to this time last year, the Indian Ocean south of the equator is dramatically warmer as coral reef bleaching is taking its toll at many of the reefs from the African coast to Australia. AES
