All NOAA-20/S-NPP/GCOM-W1 data processing and flight/satellite operations will be failed over to the Consolidated Backup (CBU) site at Fairmont, WV on May 8, 2018 in support of a test the backup capability. The purpose of the exercise is to ensure the ability to failover NOAA-20/S-NPP/GCOM-W1 flight and data operations to the CBU.

The flight/satellite operations failover portion of the test is scheduled to last 48 hours, the data operations failover test (which includes IDPS, NDE/PDA, CLASS and JSH feeds) is planned to occur for a 6-8 hour time period; however, that portion of the exercise may be extended M-B- updates will follow in future messages. During the data operations failover test, there will be no NOAA-20/S-NPP/GCOM-W1 data produced at NSOF. A subset of critical NOAA-20/S-NPP/GCOM-W1 data will be made available via the PDA located at CBU only for users with connectivity to that backup system.M-B A test of the IDMZ failover at CBU will last for 24 hours and this only affects users of the IDMZ services.

The CBU Facility Backup Exercise will begin at approximately 08:00 AM EDT / 1200 UTC on May 8, 2018 - specific timing will be provided in a future ESPC notice. During that planned time, the CBU site will be the operational NOAA-20/S-NPP/GCOM-W1 product generation and distribution system for approximately 6-8 hours or longer if the data operations portion of the test is extended.M-B IDMZ services will be transferred to CBU for approximately 24 hours and flight/satellite operations portion of the test will run for approximately 48 hours as noted before.

In the event that critical weather is declared on the planned backup date, the exercise would be canceled and it would be rescheduled for following day (i.e. May 9, 2018) or to a different week (May 15M-bM-^@M-^S17, 2018) depending on the length of the critical weather event.
