Topic: Adding Data to NOAA-20 (JPSS-1) High Rate Data Direct Broadcast

Date/Time Issued: March 20, 2018 1445 UTC

Product(s) or Data Impacted: The NOAA-20 High Rate Data (HRD) Direct Broadcast data stream. The additional data products are associated with Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) M07 and Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) Field of View #4 (FOV 4) and FOV 6.

Date/Time of Initial Impact: Tentatively scheduled to occur during April 23-27, 2018.

Date/Time of Expected End: M-BN/A

Length of Event: M-BN/A

Details/Specifics of Change: Currently, the High Rate Data (HRD) content on NOAA-20 is different (reduced) from the Stored Mission Data (SMD) content. The S-NPP experienced episodes with HRD content overflowing the shared buffer and causing issues with the SMD flow.M-B This particular problem was fixed on JPSS-1 (now NOAA-20) through a data handling link correction. A stress test was completed during the Integration and Test phase.

The following application process IDs (APID), which are associated with VIIRS M7 and CrIS FOV 4 and 6, will be added to the HRD data stream:

M-B

Although the data handling link correction resolves the impact of data overflows to the SMD, the NOAA-20 HRD data flow can occasionally exceed 15 Mbps and when that occurs data packets could be dropped. M-BM-B

Another ESPC Notification will be released 24 hours to 72 hours prior to implementing the configuration change.
