Topic:GOES-15 (GOES-West) Sounder Patch Temperature Change
on April 5, 2018
Date/Time Issued: April 03, 2018 1848Z
Product(s) or Data Impacted: GOES-15 (GOES-West) Sounder
Date/Time of the Initial Impact: April 05, 2018 0822Z
Date/Time of Expected End: April 05, 2018 0900Z
Length of the Outage: N/A
Details/Specifics of Change: On April 5, 2018, SOCC Engineers will change the GOES-15 Sounder patch temperature from its MID set point (85 K) to its LOW set-point (82 K) starting around 0822 UTC (04:22 am ET). The temperature transition will take approximately 15 minutes during the NHEMI frame scan at 08:30 UTC that has been cancelled due to stray light. No significant product impact is expected during and after this temperature change.
GOES-15 patch management and Yaw Flip is necessary to keep
sounder detector temperatures cold and in control and minimize
fluctuations around each equinox due to the cooler blanket anomaly
discovered right after launch.
