Product(s) or Data Impacted: Meteosat-11 Data and Products at NOAA/NESDIS

Date/Time of Initial Impact: January 31, 2019 1700 UTC

Date/Time of Expected End: February 4, 2019 0900 UTC

Length of Event: 4 days

Details/Specifics of Change: From January 21 - 28, 2019, EUMETSAT plans to perform a decontamination of the Meteosat-11 (Prime satellite; 0 degrees longitude) SEVIRI instrument. Meteosat-11 data will be interrupted during this time period and Meteosat-9 data will be disseminated as a backup data source to the 0 degree mission. Meteosat-9 (Met-9) data will be available from EUMETSAT through 0900 UTC, February 4, 2019. Below is the remaining Meteosat-11 (Met-11) decontamination procedure schedule from EUMETSAT:
  • Jan 21, 0900 UTC, to Jan 28, 0900 UTC: Met-9 prime satellite. Met-9 image data and Meteorological products (rectified to 0M-0) disseminated. Met-11 in decontamination with no data dissemination.
  • Jan 28, 0900 UTC to Feb 4, 0900 UTC: Met-9 prime satellite (still), with both Met-9 and Met-11 image data and Meteorological products disseminated in parallel. Met-9 data rectified to 0M-0. Met-11 data will be distributed with "PAR" in the filenames.
  • Feb 4, 0900 UTC, onward: Met-11 back to prime 0M-0 satellite. Met-9 data dissemination stops and resumes back-up status to Met-11.
NOAA/NESDIS plans to switch its operations to only Meteosat-11 data distribution effective 1700 UTC, January 31, 2019. The switch to exclusive Meteosat-11 data distribution at NOAA/NESDIS should not impact NOAA McIDAS users. In addition, for existing MSG subscribers on PDA, you will need to subscribe to the "PAR" files from Meteosat-11 prior to switch on January 31. "PAR" will be dropped from the Meteosat-11 filenames on February 4 at 0900 UTC.

Please contact NOAA/NESDIS if you have any questions in preparation for the switch to Met-11 data at 1700 UTC, January 31, 2019.
