Effective on or about Wednesday, June 12, 2019, beginning with the 1200 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) run, the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) will upgrade the Global Forecast System (GFS) from version 14 to 15.1.M-B A persistent cold bias remains in Version 15.1 of the GFS data which may impact satellite data products that use GFS as input.
Science teams have confirmed that the impacts to the NUCAPS products (both CrIS and IASI) are statistically insignificant.M-B In-depth analysis of other products such as VIIRS Cloud Mask is underway. Users are encouraged to exercise due diligence when using any satellite data products that use GFS data.M-B Users will be notified if the analysis yields any concern with regard to the product quality.
