This is a seasonal reminder that the GOES-17 ABI Loop Heat Pipe anomaly will impact bands 8 through 16 starting on July 13, 2019 at around 1240 UTC.


There will be a gradual degradation in image quality over one or several images with some complete outages. This process will cycle through varied degradation through November 30, 2019.M-B


The duration of the degradation and outage periods will vary by channel and by date.


Some time on or about September 9, 2019 the impacts are predicted to stop for about two weeks with some bands improving earlier. After this time, the effects will return and will continue until November 30, 2019.


Please note: The above dates/times are estimates and actual dates/times may be different.


The models that estimate the degradation may be updated during the eclipse season with additional information provided in a further update.
