Update #2: This is a reminder for the GOES-17 (GOES-West) ABI Cooling Timeline Mode 3 Test begining today through tomorrow: Dec 10-11, 18-20Z.

Update #1: This is a reminder for the GOES-17 (GOES-West) ABI Cooling Timeline Mode 3 Test scheduled for December 10-11, 2019. Please also note corrected times below for GNC-A (GEONETCast-Americas).

Topic: GOES-17 (GOES-West) ABI Cooling Timeline Mode 3 Test

Date/Time Issued: December 10, 2019 1335 UTC

Product(s) or Data Impacted: GOES-17 ABI Imagery and Level 2 Products

Date/Time of Initial Impact: December 10, 2019 1800Z

Date/Time of Expected End: December 11, 2019 2000Z

Length of Event: Two 2-hour events

Details/Specifics of Change: On Tuesday December 10, 2019 and Wednesday December 11, 2019, NESDIS will conduct two hours (1800-2000 UTC each day) of a GOES-17 ABI cooling timeline test using Mode-3. This test is planned to investigate the ground system throughput for L2 algorithms.M-B The test will be a variation of Mode 3 (M-bM-^@M-^\Flex ModeM-bM-^@M-^] uploaded as timelineID=3) where GOES-17 ABI will generate a single full disk once per 15 minutes and a single mesoscale domain sector once per 1 minute. The CONUS domain and usual second mesoscale domain sector will not be scanned during the timeline as those periods will be used for cooling.

Product availability will occur every 15 minutes with timestamps of HH:05, HH:20, HH:35, and HH:50 (with HH:05 representing data collected from HH:50 through HH:05 and HH:20 representing data collected from HH:05 through HH:20, etc.) for each hour from 1800-2000 UTC on December 10 and 11.M-B There will be some minor timing differences on the order of 1s of seconds between December 10 and 11, but otherwise the data collection will be the same. GOES-17 ABI will return to nominal Mode 6 operations including the ability to make two mesoscale domain sector requests at 2000 UTC on each of the two days.M-B INR and radiometric calibration will be maintained throughout the data outage. The data availability from each distribution service is provided below in a format of M-bM-^@M-^\Distribution Service: Data AvailabilityM-bM-^@M-^].M-BM-B

----------

AWIPS (Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System):M-BM-B

- 15 minute SCMI (Sectorized Cloud and Moisture Imagery) for Full Disk

- 1 minute SCMI for mesoscale domain sector M-bM-^@M-^\MESO1M-bM-^@M-^] centered over California

- 15 minute SCMI for Alaska sector (subset from Full Disk)

- 15 minute SCMI for Hawaii sector (subset from Full Disk)

GRB (GOES Rebroadcast):M-BM-B

- 15 minute L1b Radiances Full Disk

- 1 minute L1b Radiances for mesoscale domain sector M-bM-^@M-^\MESO1M-bM-^@M-^] centered over California

PDA (Product & Distribution Access System):

- 15 minute L1b Radiances Full Disk

- 1 minute L1b Radiances for mesoscale domain sector M-bM-^@M-^\MESO1M-bM-^@M-^] centered over California

- 15 minute Level 2 CMI Full Disk

- 1 minute Level 2 CMI for mesoscale domain sector M-bM-^@M-^\MESO1M-bM-^@M-^] centered over California

- All other Level 2 (non-CMI) Full Disk and mesoscale domain sector M-bM-^@M-^\MESO1M-bM-^@M-^] (centered over California) products will be produced but may have varied degradation for the duration of the test and up to 30 minutes *after* nominal Mode 6 resumes.

HRIT/EMWIN (High Resolution Information Transmission / Emergency Managers Weather Information Network):M-B 30 minute Level 2 CMI Full Disk will be broadcast at HH:11 and HH:41. The mesoscale domain sector M-bM-^@M-^\MESO1M-bM-^@M-^] (centered over California) data will not be broadcast and all Level 2 non-CMI products will not be broadcast during the defined test period.

GNC-A (GEONETCast-Americas):M-B GNC-A broadcast of 15 minute Level 2 CMI Full Disk imagery will be distributed at HH:01, HH:11, HH:31, and HH:41.M-B All Level 2 non-CMI products will not be broadcast during the defined test period.

----------

This test will be postponed in the event of Critical Weather Day declaration for the test period. The test will slip one business day at a time until it does not conflict with CWD declaration. These test activities are specific to ABI.M-B All other GOES-17 spacecraft and instrument (EXIS, GLM, Magnetometer, SEISS, SUVI) activities will remain nominal for the duration of these tests.M-B
