Update #1: This is a reminder for the GOES-17 (GOES-West) ABI Cooling Timeline Test - Phase 2 that will occur October 18-21.

Topic: GOES-17 (GOES-West) ABI Cooling Timeline Test - Phase 2

Date/Time Issued: October 17, 2019 1630 UTC

Product(s) or Data Impacted: GOES-17 ABI Imagery and Level 2 Products

Date/Time of Initial Impact: October 18, 2019 06:00 UTC

Date/Time of Expected End: October 21, 2019 12:00 UTC

Length of Event: Four 6-hour events

Details/Specifics of Change:

This notification is for the second phase of the GOES-17 ABI cooling timeline test.M-B This test is planned to investigate whether modifying the GOES-17 (GOES-West) ABI scan pattern during periods of high thermal loading would decrease the number of saturated images currently resulting due to the loop heat pipe anomaly.M-B The test will be a variation of Mode 4 (continuous full disk without CONUS or mesoscale domain sectors) operations with a 5 minute full disk scan (formatted and populated as nominal Mode 4 output) followed by 25 minutes of star looks and IR calibrations.M-B This 30 minute pattern will be repeated continuously for a total of 6 hours (06:00-12:00 UTC) on four consecutive days (October 18-21, 2019). Upon conclusion of each 6-hour test period, GOES-17 ABI will return to nominal Mode 6 operations including the ability to make mesoscale domain sector requests.M-B INR and radiometric calibration will be maintained throughout the data outage.M-BM-B

Product availability will occur every 30 minutes with timestamps of HH:05 (representing data collected from HH:00 through HH:05) and HH:35 (representing data collected from HH:30 through HH:35).M-B The specific product time stamps for October 18, 2019 through October 21, 2019 will be at 06:05, 06:35, 07:05, 07:35, 08:05, 08:35, 09:05, 09:35, 10:05, 10:35, 11:05, 11:35 UTC with Mode 6 resuming at 12:00 UTC. The data availability from each distribution service is provided below in a format of M-bM-^@M-^\Distribution Service: Data AvailabilityM-bM-^@M-^].M-BM-B

AWIPS (Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System):M-B 30 minute SCMI (Sectorized Cloud and Moisture Imagery) for Full Disk, CONUS, Alaska, and Hawaii sectors

GRB (GOES Rebroadcast):M-B 30 minute L1b Radiances Full Disk

PDA (Product & Distribution Access System):

- 30 minute L1b Radiances Full Disk

- 30 minute L1b Radiances CONUS (subset from Full Disk)

- 30 minute Level 2 CMI Full Disk

- 30 minute Level 2 CMI CONUS (subset from Full Disk)

- All other Level 2 (non-CMI) products will be either not produced or severely degraded for the duration of the test and up to 30 minutes *after* mode 6 resumes.

HRIT/EMWIN (High Resolution Information Transmission / Emergency Managers Weather Information Network):M-B 30 minute Level 2 CMI Full Disk will be distributed, but all Level 2 non-CMI products will not be broadcast during the defined test period.

GNC-A (GEONETCast-Americas): GNC-A broadcast of 30 minute Level 2 CMI Full Disk imagery will be distributed at HH:11 and HH:41.M-B GNC-A broadcast at HH:01 and HH:31 will not include ABI data. All Level 2 non-CMI products will not be broadcast during the defined test period.

These test activities are specific to ABI.M-B All other GOES-17 spacecraft and instrument (EXIS, GLM, Magnetometer, SEISS, SUVI) activities will remain nominal for the duration of these tests.M-B These test activities are subject to cancelation or delay in the event of Critical Weather Day (CWD) declarations.M-BM-B
