Topic: Meteosat-8 and Meteosat-11 Outage for McIDAS products

Date/Time Issued: September 21, 2020 2128Z

Product(s) or Data Impacted:
 Meteosat products

Date/Time of Initial Impact:
September 21, 2020 1600Z

Date/Time of Expected End:
 September 21, 2020 1900Z

Length of Outage:
 Approximately 3 hours.

Details/Specifics of Change:
Maintenance on a storage server unexpectedly disrupted processing of Meteosat data to McIDAS files, to the point that most Meteosat (both -8 and -11) data between 1600 and 1900 was unable to be processed in real time and is considered lost.

Products that rely on Meteosat data, including Global Mosaics, Global Hydro-estimator, and Biomass Burning products (ABBA) were degraded or lost during this time.

Normal processing has resumed as of 1900Z.
