Details/Specifics of Change: 

 

The NOAA Wallops Command and Data Acquisition Station (WCDAS) is planning a site power outage on Sunday, November 8. The outage is required to perform maintenance and repairs on the station's electrical power system. Maintenance is to be performed on the primary and secondary power feeds separately; power is expected to remain up for the duration. The partial power outage is expected to last for five days, with full power being restored on November 13.

 

In case of unexpected delay, the backup power outage dates are Nov. 30 to Dec. 5.

 

Product(s) or Data Impacted: All Wallops CDAS GOES, POES and other operational services will be affected during the Station power outage, as itemized: 


1. GOES-14 Telemetry & Command: Will remain operational at WCDAS. In case of unplanned power loss at WCDAS, GOES-14 support will shift to CBU, as coordinated with GOES-14 operations. 

2. GOES-15 Telemetry & Command: Will remain operational at WCDAS. In case of unplanned power loss at WCDAS, GOES-15 support will shift to CBU, as coordinated with GOES-15 operations. 

3. GOES-16 Telemetry & Command, Raw Data, GRB and HRIT services will be transitioned to CBU. Wallops will coordinate the handover with SOCC November 4, time TBD. 

4. GOES-17 Telemetry & Command, Raw Data, GRB and HRIT services will be transitioned to CBU. Wallops will coordinate the handover with SOCC November 4, time TBD. 

5. EWS-G1 MDL, SD, and T&C to be supported as required from Dongara, Wallops Operators to deploy to NSOF November 7 to sustain operations. 

6. Wallops GOES Data Collection System (DCS) Pilot transmitters for GOES-16 & GOES -17 will transition to auxiliary power, November 7. The DCS Backup Pilot transmitter at CBU will be operational for the duration of the outage. To be coordinated with data users and DCS Program Office. 

7. The Wallops GOES DCS National Weather Service Telecommunications Gateway (NWSTG) and HRIT PDA services support will transition to the NSOF Backup DCS, November 7. NSOF DCS will be Prime for the duration of the power outage. To be coordinated with data users, DCS & HRIT Program Offices. 

8. Wallops DCS Local Readout Ground Systems (LRGS) support will be unavailable for the duration of the outage. NSOF LRGS servers will be Prime for the duration of the power outage; to be coordinated with LRGS data users. 

9. Wallops POES support will be unavailable for the duration of the outage; to be coordinated with SOCC & POES Scheduler. 

10. Wallops DSCOVR support will be unavailable for the duration of the outage. DSCVR support will be provided by the Fairbanks Command and Data Acquisition Station (FCDAS); to be coordinated with SOCC, SWPC and DSCOVR Program Office. 

11. Wallops ACE support will be unavailable for the duration of the outage; to be coordinated with SOCC and ACE Program Office. 

12. The Wallops DOMSAT ground system be unavailable for the duration of the outage; to be coordinated with support contractor, SES-GS. 

13. Wallops Argos DCS calibration signal support will be unavailable for the duration of the outage; to be coordinated with the Argos DCS Program Office. 

14. Wallops SARSAT Operational Backup Facility (OBF) will be unavailable for the duration of the outage; to be coordinated with the SARSAT Program Office. 3 

15. The Wallops GOES-R ground equipment at Wallops to be supported by Wallops Operations / GOES-R support contractors. 

16. All net-based communications (Operations net and desk phones) may be down during the outage (services will be intermittent). Cell phones at times will be the best option.
