Topic: Partial data loss between NCEP and ESPC

Date/Time Issued: March 07, 2021 2200Z

Product(s) or Data Impacted: SAB products, NOAAport, McIDAS products on geodist

Date/Time of Initial Impact:  March 07, 2021 0515Z

Date/Time of Expected End:  March 07, 2021 2111Z

Length of Outage: 16 hours

Details/Specifics of Change: Data shared between NCEP and ESPC on specific circuits dropped at 0515Z. Technicians from ESPC initially responded, and were eventually joined by their NCEP counterparts to trace and ultimately resolve the issue. During the outage,

a) NOAAport products were completely out in ESPC, along with products that rely on NOAAport data (i.e., tropical bulletins);

b) SAB tropical operations were impaired by loss of NOAAport and AWIPS; SAB volcano operations impaired by distribution failures through these circuits;

c) NCEP and CPC were unable to retrieve products distributed by ESPC McIDAS servers (Meteosat, global mosaics, other level 2 products)
