Update #1: This is a reminder of the Continuity of Operations (COOP) / Backup Exercise for POES, S-NPP and NOAA-20 scheduled for May 23 - 25, 2022.
Topic: Notice of Upcoming Continuity of Operations (COOP) / Backup Exercise scheduled for May 23 - 25, 2022
Date/Time Issued: May 23, 2022 1050 UTC
Product(s) or Data Impacted: All S-NPP and NOAA-20 data will be distributed from the Consolidated Backup (CBU) facility located in Fairmont, WV during the exercise period to those users with authorized CBU data interfaces. Some blended satellite products that utilize S-NPP and NOAA-20 may be degraded/limited during the period that ESPC data operations are running from CBU. During the COOP exercise, processing/distribution will not be impacted as delivery of GOES-16/17, Metop, POES and other data will continue nominally from NSOF during the exercise unless otherwise announced from a previous ESPC notice. POES spacecraft operations will be performed from the Wallops CDA location; however, products shall continue nominally from the NSOF systems as there is no data operations backup capability for POES since it was decommissioned.
Date/Time of Initial Impact: May 23, 2022 1300 UTC
Date/Time of Expected End:
May 25, 2022 2200 UTC (ESPC data operations return to NSOF)
Length of Event:
up to 6 hrs for ESPC data operations
up to 12 hours for flight operations (depending upon the satellite mission)
Details/Specifics of Change: On Monday, May 23 2022 the flight operations command and control for S-NPP and NOAA-20 satellites in the JPSS constellation, POES, and ESPC data operations will be failed-over to the CBU - the targeted time is 1200 UTC but a refined schedule will be shared as the COOP/backup date nears. ESPC data operations from CBU will only be conducted for up to 24 hours and those data operations will be returned back to NSOF at approximately 25 May, 2200 UTC. On 25 May, 2200 UTC the flight command and control for the JPSS constellation will be failed back to the NSOF SOCC.
A more detailed timeline and description of product impacts will be provided closer to the COOP/backup exercise announced date.
