Topic: GOES-18 ABI solar calibration scans

Date/Time Issued: November 4, 2022 1400Z

Product(s) or Data Impacted: GOES-18 ABI product outages

Date/Time of Initial Impact: October 14, 2022 1510-1520 UTC

Date/Time of Expected End: November 14, 2022 1510-1520 UTC

Length of Outage: Approximately 5 minutes during a period of Continuous Full Disk operations

Details/Specifics of Change:

During the first period of GOES-18 and GOES-17 interleave between October 14 and November 14th, ABI Solar Calibration PLT activities for GOES-18 will be ongoing. Solar calibrations will be performed at a 6 day cadence from October 14 to November 7 and a 7 day cadence from November 7 to November 14.

GOES-18 ABI 10-minute Flex Mode (mode 6) will be replaced with 10 minutes of Continuous Full Disk (mode 4) from approximately 1450-1500 UTC +/- one 10 minute ABI mode 6 timeline. A GOES-18 ABI solar calibration scan will be performed during one of the two scheduled 5 minute Continuous Full Disk (Mode 4) timelines, resulting in an outage of all ABI products. ABI 10-minutes Flex Mode (mode 6) will resume at approximately 1500 UTC +/- one 10 minute ABI mode 6 timeline. The next Full Disk scan will populate at 1500 UTC +/- one 10 minute ABI mode 6 timeline.
