Topic:  N20 CrIS Scan Baffle Temperature Anomaly

Date/Time Issued: Feb 23, 2022  0005Z

Product or Data Impacted: NOAA-20 CrIS Sensor Data Records (SDR) and Outgoing Longwave Radiation (OLR)

Date/Time of Initial Impact: Feb 15, 2022 2010Z

Date/Time of Expected End: TBD

Length of the Outage/Event: TBD

Details/Specifics of Change: NOAA-20 CrIS sensor is having an anomaly that flags the valid data as degraded data due to the failure of a temperature sensor. The issue is caused by an intermittent electrical failure. Due to this anomaly the Quality Flags (QFs) included in the SDR BUFR data and OLR quality flags should be ignored. A troubleshoot of the problem has been initiated and a short-term solution proposed by the SDR science team to fix this problem is to update the engineering packet to open the limits and prevent the flag from being set. Users will be notified when the fix will be implemented in the ESPC operation.
