Details/Specifics of Change:

On March 23, 2023 at 1800 UTC, the PR.11.05.00 software update will be put into operation on the GOES-R Ground System for GOES-16. Barring the declaration of a Critical Weather Day, on March 27, 2023 the PR.11.05.00 update will go live for GOES-18. This build will replace the following ABI L2 Baseline algorithms with the Enterprise version.

Product content changes

The primary product variables will not be changed, although the underlying science updates will result in improved data quality in some cases. However, the Enterprise versions of Cloud Height and Ice Age and Thickness will introduce some minor changes to the Data Quality Flags (DQFs) associated with these products. A full summary of the changes to each product’s DQFs is provided in the tables below:

New high-resolution products

The update to the Enterprise algorithms will include the addition of new 2 km versions of Cloud Height and Cloud Pressure for all image sectors (Full Disk, CONUS, Meso), as well as a new 2 km version of the Full Disk Cloud Optical Depth (COD) product. The current lower-resolution versions will continue to be produced alongside these new higher-resolution products. The new 2 km data files will contain “2KM” in the filename and will be available through PDA via new subscriptions based on the short names below:

Non-Enterprise changes

PR.11.05.00 will also bring with it a change to the cadence of the Fractional Snow Cover product from the current 10-minute production frequency to a once-an-hour product.
