Details/Specifics of Change:

The Enterprise Rainfall Rate Estimate products are planned to be declared operational in NCCF on November 30, 2023. Please note the shortname and filename change in NCCF and pay attention to the information provided in the table below for the product filename and PDA short name. All Enterprise Rainfall Rate Estimate products will be in NetCDF4 format. No GRIB2 or McIDAS files will be generated. The test data will be available on PDA I&T on October 30, 2023. The current GHE product will be provided in parallel with the new data for 60 days.

List of Scientific Changes:

Added four additional IR bands (two WV bands and two more IR window bands) to the input data set.
Changed from fixed calibration to calibration that varies in

space (different calibrations for 15x15 lat/lon boxes);
time (calibration is updated hourly using IR data matched with NWS/CPC combined microwave (MWCOMB) rain rates;
cloud type (approximate type based on brightness temperature differences).

Discontinued orographic adjustment (GHE precipitation enhancements / reductions often in the wrong places).
Grid spacing changed from ~4-km Mercator to 0.02 deg lat/lon
Coverage area changed from ~65 S-~65 N to 60 S-70 N.
Improved performance over the GHE for light to moderate rainfall; however, heavy (>=25 mm/h) rain rates tend to be underestimated.

Please note: This upgrade will not be performed during Critical Weather Day (CWD).
