Update #2:  The implementation of software build PR.13.01.00 has been delayed to Monday, November 27, 2023

Update #1: The update including additional Cloud Type information in the ABI Cloud Top Phase product has been removed from this software build. The rest of the content will go live as planned, likely between 1500 and 1900 UTC on November 21, 2023

Details/Specifics of Change: On November 21, 2023, the PR.13.01.00 software build will be placed into operations for both GOES-16 and GOES-18. This update will focus primarily on the Level 2 Cloud products, but some changes may affect other ABI Level 2 products. The paragraphs below describe the changes in greater detail.

Update data variable name in Cloud Particle Size product - Up to now, the Cloud Particle Size product produced by the Cloud Optical and Microphysical Properties (COMP) algorithm, has incorrectly listed its primary variable as “Particle Size Distribution” (PSD). This is being updated in this release to properly refer to the product as “Cloud Particle Size” (CPS), which will also make it consistent with its output filename (i.e. OR_ABI-L2-CPS*).

Change to use new surface type dataset - The static surface type data that is used in the processing of many of the ABI Level 2 algorithms is being changed from the UMD dataset to a dataset based on the VIIRS-derived surface type, which is updated annually. While large-scale differences are not anticipated, this does have the potential to introduce slight differences to products that use the outgoing UMD version. One benefit of this dataset is that it will capture more islands, including Hawaii. This change was made previously for the Fire Hot Spot algorithm only.

Fix missing blocks in Cloud Height and COMP products - a product generation issue that was causing missing blocks to appear in the Mesoscale 1 scene for the following products produced by the Cloud Height and COMP algorithms has been addressed:
