Update #9: Beginning December 11, 2023 20:00 UTC, all S-NPP CrIS SDR and BUFR products are approved for operational use and NDE/PDA subscriptions for those products will be enabled. Direct Broadcast (DB) users can use the equivalent Community Satellite Processing Package (CSPP) LEO products for operation

Update #8: Engineering coordinated with vendor support to restore the S-NPP CrIS instrument to its operational mode at 14:27 UTC, December 6, 2023. An update will be made to this notice once Cal/Val teams complete their full SMD (Science Mission Data) analysis.  Note: Direct broadcast (DB) users are advised that this S-NPP CrIS science data is not yet cleared for operational use.

Update #7:
The OMPS Nadir Profile (NP) SDRs and EDRs (V8Pro) products  and the NDE/PDA subscriptions for these products were enabled on 22:00 UTC, November 16, 2023

The CrIS instrument recovery operation will continue no earlier than November 30.

Update #6: The S-NPP OMPS Nadir Mapper (NM) SDRs and EDRs (Total Column Ozone V8TOz NetCDF & BUFR & V8TOS NetCDF files) products are approved for operations and the NDE/PDA subscriptions for these products will be enabled at 16:00 UTC, November 14, 2023.

The OMPS Limb Profile (LP) SDR (Level 1b NetCDF files) and EDR (V2Limb Level 2 Ozone NetCDF & BUFR files) products are approved for operations and the NDE/PDA subscriptions for these products will be enabled at 16:00 UTC, November 14, 2023.

The OMPS SDR and EDR teams will evaluate OMPS Nadir Profile (NP) SDRs and EDRs (V8Pro) product quality after additional OMPS SDR Look Up tables (LUTs) are ingested November 16, 2023. The expectation is to release these remaining products at 22:00 UTC, November 16, 2023 once the table implementations are evaluated.

The CrIS instrument recovery operation will continue through the week of November 20.

Update #5: Engineering continues recovery activities for S-NPP CrIS with vendor support. While the instrument is currently on and responsive, enabling of the CrIS Scene Selection Module (SSM) has been unsuccessful. Engineering will continue the restoration activities throughout the rest of the week with an update expected no earlier than Mon, Nov 13, 2023.

The OMPS SDR and EDR teams are on track to provide the full clearance for OMPS Limb Profile (LP), Nadir Profile (NP), and Nadir Mapper (NM) product quality after the OMPS SDR Look Up Tables (LUTs) are ingested into operations by mid week with the full analysis not expected until Mon, Nov 13, 2023 at the earliest.

Update #4: S-NPP instrument activation activities are on-going. CrIS has not yet fully recovered and recovery activities will resume on Monday, Nov 6, 2023. All ATMS and VIIRS products are approved for operational use and PDA OPS subscriptions for those products will be enabled at 20:30 UTC, Nov 3, 2023.  CERES products are also approved for operational use as of Nov 3, 2023. Direct Broadcast (DB) users can use the equivalent Community Satellite Processing Package (CSPP) LEO products for operations.

The OMPS SDR and EDR teams will evaluate OMPS Limb Profile (LP), Nadir Profile (NP), and Nadir Mapper (NM) product quality after the OMPS SDR Look Up Tables (LUTs) are ingested into operations by mid next week with the full analysis not expected until Mon, Nov 13, 2023 at the earliest.

Update #3: Engineering placed the S-NPP satellite in mission-point mode and all instruments were confirmed to be in a safe state on Nov 1, 2023. Instrument activation activities commenced today Nov 2, 2023.

ATMS was placed in operational mode at 15:47 UTC on Nov 2, 2023. OMPS was placed in operational mode at 17:56 UTC on Nov 2, 2023. CERES was placed in operational mode at 17:56 UTC on Nov 2, 2023. VIIRS was placed in operational mode at 16:09 UTC on Nov 2, 2023. CrIS is expected to be fully activated by Friday Nov 3, 2023.

Users are advised S-NPP data is undergoing further evaluation by Cal/Val science teams.

While S-NPP High Rate data (HRD) is enabled, Direct broadcast (DB) users are advised that this S-NPP science data is not yet cleared for operational use.

PDA OPS subscriptions for all S-NPP science products have been disabled as of 20:00 UTC, Nov 1, 2023. All missed data will not be recoverable (after the 14:56 UTC Nov 1, 2023 observation time). The NOAA-20 and NOAA-21 satellites will continue to provide JPSS science data as the primary and tertiary satellites, respectively.
