Details/Specifics of Change: GOES-16, 18 Lightning Detection and derived products All Scenes delivered to AWIPS, GRB, PDA. On November 28 at 1711 UTC for GOES-East (GOES-16) and 1751 UTC for GOES-West (GOES-18), the GLM LCFA and gridded products began showing signs of degradation. The issue is causing false lightning events to be detected in random fashion across the entire Field of View (FOV). This presents as a speckling phenomenon when looking at animations of the GLM products. Currently, the number of false detections is greater for GOES-18 than for GOES-16. The source of the product degradation is currently unknown, however an investigation into the root cause is underway. Further updates will be provided as information becomes available. This notification supersedes that issued Issued December 06, 1916Z
