Topic:  GOES-18 antenna handover to cause potential for GRB receiver impacts

Date/Time Issued: March 5, 2024 1825 UTC

Product(s) or Data Impacted: GOES-18 GRB data receipt

Date/Time of Initial Impact: March 6, 2024 1700 UTC

Date/Time of Expected End: March 14, 2024

Length of Outage: 8 days

Details/Specifics of Change: On 6 March 2024 at approximately 1700 UTC, the GOES-18 GRB stream will be handed over to an antenna at CBU that utilizes new SGC (Space to Ground Communications) hardware. Some users may experience difficulties receiving GRB data, similar to the GOES-16 GRB issues observed on 12 October 2023 for users whose receivers are impacted. The impact is caused by a change to the BBFRAME being configured as ACM (Adaptive Coding and Modulation) vs CCM (Continuous Coding and Modulation). GOES-18 GRB will remain in this configuration until 14 March 2024.

Diligent monitoring of receive systems is recommended during this transition period. If any disruption to GRB service is noticed please email:
