Details/Specifics of Change:

The majority of NOAA-21 products have reached at least provisional maturity or better and NOAA-21 will now be designated as the primary afternoon satellite. Starting on March 20, 2024 at 1200 UTC assignments are now:

      Primary: NOAA-21

      Secondary: NOAA-20

      Tertiary: S-NPP

After implementation of this NOAA-21 designation change, operational products for NOAA-20 and S-NPP will still remain available for user access. The Tertiary designation for S-NPP only means any non-nominal issue or ground resource constraint will be worked or addressed under a best-effort basis during normal business hours as priorities permit, unless there is a satellite or instrument health and safety issue. Additional notifications to the community will be sent regarding NOAA-21 operational product availability as those product provisional milestones occur. Please reference the JPSS-2/NOAA-21 Product Operations Plan (POP) for details at: https://noaasis.noaa.gov/pdf/J-2%20Product%20Ops%20Plan_V1.1_FINAL_092322.pdf.

Additional ESPC notifications may provide further details and updates concerning the promotion of NOAA-21 to primary.
