Topic: Install of PR.13.08.00 software build for GOES-16 and GOES-18
Date/Time Issued: August 7, 2024 1810 UTC
Product(s) or Data Impacted: GOES-16 & GOES-18 Shortwave Radiation Budget products, and GOES-18 Derived Motion Winds products
Date/Time of Initial Impact: August 12, 2024
Date/Time of Expected End: N/A
Length of Outage: N/A
Details/Specifics of Change: On August 12, 2024, the PR.13.08.00 software update will be put into operations on the GOES-R Ground System. This release will include updates and fixes for the Derived Motion Winds (DMW), and the Shortwave Radiation Budget (SRB) products.
For DMW, this update will focus on the GOES-18 Band 2 CONUS product, which has recently been experiencing an increase in the amount of missing data. To alleviate this, additional processing resources will be added for this product.
Updates to the metadata for SRB products (Downward Shortwave Radiation (DSR), Reflected Shortwave Radiation (RSR), and Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR)) will also be included in this release. A summary of the changes and the products impacted are provided below:
All SRB products (DSR, RSR, and PAR):
Updated “coordinates” attribute from “y x” to “y_image x_image” to better align with other products.
Changed the word “retrieval” to “quantitative” in the “cell_methods” attribute for min, max, mean, and std_dev for dsr, rsr, and par variables. The min, max, mean, and std_dev sza variables continue to have cell_methods and coordinates of “retrieval_local_zenith_angle” and “retireval_solar_zenith_angle”
Fixed the “algorithm_dynamic_input_container” to correctly reflect all dynamic data used
Fixed the “algorithm_product_version_container” attribute’s “product_version” to have a value of “v02r00” in order to denote the enterprise algorithm version.
DSR and RSR:
Updated the valid_range to be 0 - 65530 (previously the max was incorrectly set to 65535)
RSR only:
Replaced all mentions of “dsr_product_wavelength” with “rsr_product_wavelength”
PAR only:
Added valid_range of 0 - 65530
Changed Global Attribute “title” to remove the word “Intermediate”
