Date/Time Issued: May 8, 2025 0317Z

Product(s) or Data Impacted:  HIRS Products

Date/Time of Initial Impact:  May 5, 2025 1745Z

Date/Time of Expected End:  Unknown

Length of Event:  Ongoing

Details/Specifics of Change:
On Monday, May 05 2025 (J-day 175), the NOAA-18 HIRS HIRS Filter Wheel Motor current abruptly jumped from 324 mA to 504 mA at 17:45 UTC.  It then ramped down to about 472 mA, where it has since stabilized.  The Filter Wheel Motor and Housing Temperatures have since stabilized in the low 35° C.

This behavior is consistent with a filter wheel stall, but requires further investigation. Options for recovery are limited. Remember the POES mission has far exceeded its mission life cycle and data is being provided as best effort to Users.
