Satellite Source: Suomi NPP VIIRS
Mode: Multispectral
Resolution: 375 meter
Image Date & Time: 05-13-2018 1900 UTC

Confidence: High
Issue Date: 05-14-2018

Region: Gulf of Mexico
Location: 28°56'16" N, 88°58'14" W
Coverage Area: 482.80 km^2

Remarks:
Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed
as oil. The anomaly appeared to be emanating from the Destroyed Taylor
Platform and extended 27 nmi towards the NE. The anomaly spanned nearly
4 nmi at its greatest width.
Measured winds in the area at the time of observation were 5 knots and
from the NE. Modeled ocean currents were under 1.0 knot with variable
directionality.
Confidence was determined to be High given the likely point source is a
repeat offender and the anomaly possessed a silver shimmer in the sunglint
area.

Uncertainties:
The full extent of the anomaly is unknown given the coarse resolution of
the satellite image.
