REPORT DATE: 06-17-2018 REPORT TIME: 2327 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: MID ATLANTIC U.S. AREA/BLOCK: North Atlantic IMAGE DATE: 06-17-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1526 UTC DATA SOURCE: LANDSAT8 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 40°24'03" N/72°22'13" W AREA: 2.33 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil, but it is believed to be an oil slick that emanated from the site of the Coimbra tanker wreck located south of Long Island, NY since the slick was directly connected to that location. The curvilinear slick measured 6 nm long. Winds were light and variable at the time of the image; model currents were also light. UNCERTAINTIES: Due to the presence of natural features on the ocean surface at the southern end of the slick, we are unable to determine a more precise areal extent of the slick.
