REPORT DATE: 07-12-2018 REPORT TIME: 1110 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: MID ATLANTIC U.S. AREA/BLOCK: North Atlantic 6627 IMAGE DATE: 07-11-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1105 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1B MODE: Extra Wide (EW) VV RESOLUTION: 20x40 meter LOCATION: 40°24'03" N/72°22'13" W AREA: 3.43 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: **Please be advised that this report was generated from imagery captured on the previous day, but which did not come available until today** Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly appeared to emanate from the Coimbra Tanker Shipwreck and extends NW in a circular pattern for approximately 3.5NM; the area of possible oil appeared dark against the ocean background and was indicative of an oil signature. Wind data from station buoy ‘44017’ indicates that winds were out of the E at approximately 1.6 m/s and aligns well with the orientation of the anomaly. Confidence was determined to be high given that the Coimbra Tanker Shipwreck is known as a repeat leak source. UNCERTAINTIES: Confidence was determined to be high given that the Coimbra Tanker wreckage is known as a repeat leak source, however similar anomalies have had appeared darker in the past.
