REPORT DATE: 07-14-2018 REPORT TIME: 0210 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: VERMILLION 234 IMAGE DATE: 07-14-2018 IMAGE TIME: 0000 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: ScanSAR Narrow VV RESOLUTION: 50 meter LOCATION: 28°37'02" N/92°15'35" W AREA: 29.58 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly measured 4.75 NM by 2.75 NM and was in an area of very light winds, less than 5 KT out of the S. Additionally, the anomaly was in an area that had numerous biogenic signatures. However, an NRC report #1218277 was issued a mere 30 minutes prior to the image time. The report noted a large slick due to a pipeline discharge in Vermillion 228, which is in the immediate vicinity of this anomaly. Given all of the above factors we have MEDIUM confidence in this assessment. UNCERTAINTIES: This anomaly could be biogenic material or an area of very light winds.
