REPORT DATE: 07-16-2018 REPORT TIME: 0112 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: DRY TORTUGAS 764 IMAGE DATE: 07-15-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1555 UTC DATA SOURCE: LANDSAT8 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 24°11'25" N/83°11'15" W AREA: 8.76 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was more than 20 NM in length and extended from a point source beyond the NW edge of the image into cloud cover within the image and exhibited feathering, had many sharp turns and had silver/white portions consistent with thicker oil. Additionally, the anomaly widen with distance which is consistent with a bilge dump, in this case from a point source moving NW. Winds were out of the NE at 10 KT at the time of the image. Considering all of the above factors we have HIGH confidence in this assessment. UNCERTAINTIES: The full extent could not be determined due to cloud cover and the anomaly extending beyond the edge of the image. A point source could not be determined due to the anomaly beginning out of the image scene.
