REPORT DATE: 07-15-2018 REPORT TIME: 2230 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: VERMILLION 272 IMAGE DATE: 07-15-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1705 UTC DATA SOURCE: TERRA MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 250 meter LOCATION: 28°28'15" N/92°10'25" W AREA: 73.67 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly extended 10.25 NM in total length, was 2.75 NM at its widest and was within an area of light and variable winds. The anomaly was white/silver in appearance under sun-glint and had an area of apparent thicker oil. This anomaly was the subject of a very recent NRC report #1218441 that noted multiple shades of sheen associated with it. Given the above factors we have HIGH confidence in this assessment. UNCERTAINTIES: There are multiple possible point sources in the immediate vicinity. We chose the source which appeared the most likely based on apparent thickness and extent of the slick.
