REPORT DATE: 07-21-2018 REPORT TIME: 1425 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: MID ATLANTIC U.S. AREA/BLOCK: North Atlantic 7004 IMAGE DATE: 07-20-2018 IMAGE TIME: 2234 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 5x20 meter LOCATION: 40°06'02" N/69°55'03" W AREA: 3.59 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly measured 9.54 NM in length and 0.15 NM in width. Winds were 10 kts out of the SE. Confidence that the anomaly seen was oil is high. The anomaly appeared to be originating from a known repeat leak source Wreck 1487. The anomaly had high contrast with the surrounding area and featured several sharp bends. The anomaly also aligns well with the wind conditions at the time of the image as it appeared to be spreading NW. UNCERTAINTIES: There was quite a bit of natural phenomena in the image but it did not have the contrast that the anomaly did.
