REPORT DATE: 07-21-2018 REPORT TIME: 0300 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MAIN PASS 37 IMAGE DATE: 07-20-2018 IMAGE TIME: 2356 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: ScanSAR Narrow VV RESOLUTION: 50 meter LOCATION: 29°25'36" N/88°55'14" W AREA: 93.57 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly is believed to be oil that emanated from a platform mentioned in NRC report #1218996. The anomaly was approximately 15.04 nm. The majority of the dark anomaly was distinguishable from natural phenomena within the vicinity. The orientation of the anomaly was partly supported by wind data near the time of the image which were coming from the W-SW between 5-10 kts. UNCERTAINTIES: The anomaly seemed to have spread towards all directions which was supported by ccean current data near the time of the image. Also, the full extent of the anomaly was unknown.
