REPORT DATE: 07-23-2018 REPORT TIME: 0135 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 07-22-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1850 UTC DATA SOURCE: SUOMINPPVIIRS MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 375 meter LOCATION: 28°56'08" N/88°58'25" W AREA: 48.24 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The possible slick was connected to the destroyed Taylor Energy platform, and stretched east with approximate dimensions 6.5 nmi in length by 2.25 nmi wide. Part of the anomaly exhibited a white colored appearance that is believed to be indicative of relatively thicker oil in moderate sunglint. Winds at the time of the pass could not be determined. The false positive annotated in the southern portion of the scene was weather cloud, and was easily distinguishable from the possible oil. UNCERTAINTIES: The extent of the possible oil is not exact due to coarse spatial resolution of the satellite sensor. No other uncertainties as this is a repeat leak source.
