REPORT DATE: 07-25-2018 REPORT TIME: 1605 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: SHIP SHOAL 114 IMAGE DATE: 07-25-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1159 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: ScanSAR Narrow VV RESOLUTION: 50 meter LOCATION: 28°49'38" N/90°50'06" W AREA: 3.69 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly measured 1.54 NM in width and 1.98 NM in length. Winds were 10kts out of the NE. Confidence that the anomaly seen was oil is high. The anomaly has a significant amount of contrast with the surrounding area. It was also located exactly where a spill was reported in NRC report #1219422. The report states the leak is from an abondoned well and is a mixture of crude oil and gasoline. The suspected point source matches with coordinates in the report. UNCERTAINTIES: The edges of the anomaly were not well defined most likely due to the mixture of gas within the crude oil making it difficult to determine the exact extent of the anomaly.
