REPORT DATE: 07-28-2018 REPORT TIME: 1615 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MAIN PASS 267 IMAGE DATE: 07-27-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1628 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2B MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 29°21'11" N/88°23'57" W AREA: 6.17 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was approximately 2.74 nm N-SSW and 0.61 nm in width. It exhibited a combination of thinner oil, the silvery white portion, and relatively thicker oil which was the darker portion with streaks of brown and orange. The ocean currents near the time of the image aligned well with the orientation of the anomaly which were moving towards the SSW at 1 kt. UNCERTAINTIES: There was no discernable point source and no known spill within the vicinity. Winds near the time of the image were light and variable therefore not able to further support the orientation of the anomaly.
