REPORT DATE: 07-31-2018 REPORT TIME: 0031 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: ALAMINOS CANYON 503 IMAGE DATE: 07-30-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1650 UTC DATA SOURCE: LANDSAT8 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 26°27'08" N/95°00'16" W AREA: 1.29 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The linear anomaly stretched about 4.3 nm in length and averaged approximately 0.1 nm wide. The anomaly was located in sunglint, and appeared silvery/white in portions and black in other parts, indicative of an oil slick. It stood out clearly from natural features in the area and aligned reasonably well with 2 knot model currents from the WSW. UNCERTAINTIES: A point source was unknown. No RULET shipwrecks, oil facilities, boreholes, or natural seeps appeared to be nearby. The only known man-made feature in the area was a pipeline located about 3.3 nmi east of the slick. We were also uncertain of a more precise size of the slick due to it being located at the edge of the satellite image, where the slick was bisected.
